OLIVIER DESFORGES — NEW FOR SUMMER 2006
The memory of an old Romany caravan and the scent of a sunny countryside infuse designs of wild flowers, lace patchwork, vivid stripes, and the contrast of bright colors on pure white. The gamut of looks possible—from the drama of a single pattern to the depth and fun sparked by a medley of them all—furnishes an entire wardrobe for the bedroom.
ELVIRE
White percale is embroidered with an abundance of scarlet peonies and co-ordinated with tender green on piping, fitted sheet, and sham and duvet cover reverse. White or green towelling with pleated and embroidered borders carries the theme through to the bath. Towels also coordinate with Gina and Mascali red.
GINA
A contemporary floral features scarlet and white blossoms amid shaded green foliage on a pale slate background. Fitted sheet is solid red, as is the reverse of the sham and duvet cover. Quilted coverlet with vermicelli stitching has a wide red border.
MASCALI (Red)
Printed stripes deliciously colored in crimson, rose, almond, and olive are crisply framed in white. Fitted sheet is solid crimson. Jacquard towelling has skinny vertical stripes with wide solid borders.
EVA
Meticulous white patchwork, like a gypsy’s petticoat, is made with squares of broderie anglaise joined together with cotton lace ribbons. A white crochet bed cover, inlaid with flowers worked in relief and edged with pom-poms, lends a touch of kitsch.
BARNABE (Pimento)
A paisley print in spicy colors is paired with a pumpkin herringbone stripe. Quilted coverlet in cotton sateen reverses from pimento to burnt orange.
A second group of patterns has a cooler palette of mineral shades: slate, stone, sand, and storm blue. The similarly hued designs again provide ample opportunity for blending to create a range of looks.
MASCALI (Slate)
Printed stripes in shades of slate and blue are set off with a solid fitted sheet. Jacquard-woven towels repeat the motif.
BARNABE (Slate)
The paisley print appears again, this time in a slate version that gets lightened up with a sandstone herringbone print. A coordinating cotton sateen coverlet reverses from storm grey to anthracite, and works equally well with Mascali.
